ABOUT POZDRO!

“PoZdro!” is an innovative six-year nationwide diabetes prevention program that addresses the growing problem of diabetes type 2. The program is targeted towards junior high school students, their families, schools and local authorities. The program’s key element focuses on one-on-one coaching with those at risk, at home, school, and places where teenagers spend most of their time.

When both parents and teachers start to speak with one voice, it is possible to create a supportive environment that encourages a healthy lifestyle, physical activity and maintaining a balanced diet. Children with identified risk factors are covered by two years of free care by the Medicover Specialist Care Teams.

The program consists of eight meetings and each of them includes consultations with four specialists: a physician, a dietician, a physical activity expert, and a psychologist. A Scientific Advisory Board has been appointed to oversee the program to assure it meets the highest standards.

“PoZdro!” which is underway in four cities – Gdynia, Lublin, Wrocław, and selected districts of Warsaw, is effectively changing the habits of both students and their parents.
The ”PoZdro!” program was endorsed by the Honorary Patronage of the Minister of National Education. By the end of 2015 we examined 9756 children from which we recommended 1443 families for personalized care. Over 100 specialists take part in the program.

To carry out a Comprehensive Health Analysis (KAZ) in junior high schools in the form of
screening tests of 1st year students.

Stages of support for school staff:

To conduct training of school staff in how to develop and implement a health policy within the school and to provide them with innovative tools for health education. To prepare interactive Multimedia Lessons which present the benefits of a healthy lifestyle in an interesting way, and meet Ministry of Education requirements.

Specialist stage (two- year free care):

To provide a two-year Integrated Individual Care plan for those children identified to be at risk of developing diabetes or other lifestyle-based diseases and their families. To organize educational workshops for families involved in the integrated individual care plan. Interdisciplinary teams which are composed of 4 specialist’s, a physician, psychologist, dietician, and a physical activity expert, will provide care of the youth and their families in the at risk group.
